Switching the Dell Perc H370p to HBA Mode
When switching to HBA Mode I found a interesting issue where the iDrac would quque the job but the setting would not take after a reboot. Then when attempting via the bios I received the message:
“The requested operation is not possible at this time”
This usually happens if some old configuration is still persistent on the controllers.
I firstly physically removed all the disks from the backplane.
Then I entered the controller via the BIOS and cleared the configuration using the steps below.
- F2 during boot to enter Bios -> Device Settings -> Intergrated RAID Controller 1: PERC H730P.
2. Configuration Management -> Clear Config -> Confirm -> Yes
This usually works to set HBA Mode but if not continue below
3. Controller Management -> Advanced Controller Management -> Clear Controller Events -> OK
4. Controller Management -> Advanced Controller Management -> Clear Controller Events -> Set Factory Default -> Set Factory Defaults -> confirm -> OK
This should now allow you to set HBA mode.
Controller Management -> Advanced Controller Management -> Switch to HBA Mode you should be then ready to go.
“The operation has been performed successfully. Reboot the system for the change to take effect”
Please note when exiting this will not trigger a reboot. Be sure to trigger a cold reboot of the system. e.g. iDrac -> Power Cycle System (cold boot)
iDrac may still show the mode has “RAID” as takes a while to refresh the inventory. You can confirm the setting by going back into the device settings via the F2 system setup options..
